It is a charitable organisation for the welfare of the forsaken elders who need day care centre or a full time care centre. Therefore the organisation has succeeded in obtaining land donated by Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran, the renowned neurologist of Trivandrum Medical College. A home for the aged for the above cause is under construction:
Eight rooms, with attached bathrooms, dining hall, kitchen, library and other facilities. The eight rooms are undersponsorship (RS One Lakh in Memory of the Donor’s Beloved Late Parents). The family of late MR. S. Rajan, the former treasurer of the organisation, sponsors an auditorium.
Still, we need more funds for the completion of the construction and daily running of the care centre. Therefore Elders’ Forum, Mayyanad seeks generous contributions from international organisations and individuals.
Lifemembership on donation of Rs/50 thousand and their names will be inscribed on the wall of the home for the aged. The care of the forlorn elderly is a service to Him, a promise fulfilled.
Please send your contributions to the President, Secretary, or Treasurer of the Elders’ Forum.

A HOME FOR THE ABONDONED AND HOMELESS AT CHATHANNOOR, KOLLAM, INDIA
Karunalayum was started on the 30th of April 2003 at Chathannoor. This is a home for the abandoned and homeless street women. It was started in a rented house and is carrying on the work in the rented house. This home was started with the initiatives of Fr. Joy Ettuveettil and Sister Deepthi Marangolil. At first we had a paralytic abandoned woman as the first member, then more and more abandoned and destitute, sought our protection and care. We are trying our level best to care for these women and try to accommodate the maximum with the help of a few selflessly working volunteers; and generous well wishers.
This home has grown now and has no place to accommodate more than 22 abandoned women are now living a protected life. They are from different walks of life. They are also nailing from different parts of India. Since bail can’t even remember her state she speak some meaningless Hindi dialect Sona Bai from Ballariy is being rehabilitated after she was released from rescue home and we have many more heart rending stories to tell. By the grace of God, now they all feel safe and happy.
Our work is becoming bigger and wider everyday. We get now cases everyday looking for support. We need to stand together to make this mission successful. We will work on your behalf to make the life of these abandoned women’s life more easy.
Urgently we need a permanent home, so that we may not have to shift our residence from one place to another. Our dream is to get one acre land and a big house so that we can look after at least 50 homeless and destitute women.
Kindly join in this great mission of love, sharing your mite would ease our burden very much. Thanking you all for the generous support we received till now. We remember you all in our prayers.

Own contribution : Rs 2,00,000
Local contribution : Rs 9,00,000
Aid Requested : Rs 27,60,000
Justification of the project
The situation of the aged destitute in the kerala State is very pathetic. There are only a few organizations committed for rehabilitation and care of the aged destitute. Sr. Deepathi is the chief social worker of the centre. There are three helpers to assist her in the smooth running of Rehabilitation Centre. The monthly expenses of the centre including rent for the building are about Rs/ 28000. These expenses are convered from the generous contributions of the local people both in cash and kind. Now, we feel that if Karunalayam can have own land and building it can extend its service to more deserving aged destitute.
